About Ryan
"it is a fine thing to have ability, but the ability to discovery ability in others is the trust test." Lou Holtz, Football Coach

I started in sport at an early age as a BMX and mountain bike racer. My elementary years were consumed with the dirt tracks.  I loved the dirt and outside, so I decided to run cross country during my high school years, along with playing all of the 'ball' sports.  After graduating from college, I decided one day to take a spinning class. At the time I was weighing in at about 195 pounds-40 pounds more than I weight now.  My father was also struggling with cancer.  His cancer was caused by an unhealthy lifestyle.  That spin class is where it all started. I jumped into Ultracycling.  I raced my bike all over the country at distances from double centuries to 12-hour races.  My most notable finish from these days was finishing 2nd at the Ultramarathon Cycling Association 12-hour Championships in 2003. At this point, I was starting to experiment with multisport.  I was using running to boost my cycling fitness, and swimming as recovery workouts.  1 year later I raced in the Kansas State Time Trial Championships.  I did not have an extensive road racing background, so the 40K distance seemed like a sprint compared to Ultracycling races.  Since I was considered a road-racing rookie, I raced as a category 5, and won that Kansas State time trial championship.  Eventually though, I completely converted to a multisport athlete.  I love the variety and challenge of the cross training, and the unbelievable learning process involved with trying to master 3 different sports at once. I approach my own racing and training the same way I approach any athlete I work with-get the most out of the god given ability.

My most proud multisport finishes include finishing 20th overall at the 2007 Redman Half-iron distance race in Oklahoma City, OK, first overall at the 2006 Little Apple Pie Duathlon (short course) in Manhattan, KS, as well as many, many age-group wins.

I received my coaching Certification from USA Triathlon late in 2006. I am also certified by Mad Dogg Athletics as an Indoor Cycling instructor.  I have received continuing education in Total Immersion Swimming, and various exercise science topics from Mad Dogg Athletics.  I am also taking ongoing continuing education from Evolution Running and USA Cycling.
